The Inconvenient Indian is at once a “history” and the complete subversion of a history—in short, a critical and personal meditation that the remarkable Thomas King has conducted over the past 50 years about what it means to be “Indian” in North America. Rich with dark and light, pain and magic, this book distills the insights gleaned from that meditation, weaving the curio Staring right at Barton from the page was the photo of his daughter’s killer, Misook Nowlin, whose face, though etched in his memory, he had not seen in over 13 years. Scanning through the article, Barton realized that this was the same news item he had caught the tail end of in the previously mentioned noon news on WGN TV a few weeks earlier. 2021.10.23 20:34 Schneidgenossin To those who take or took lessons: Advice needed!
Hey y’all, I’m a former self taught drummer which I regret and I’m taking lessons since almost three months now. I got started from the scratch and am learning 8 different 8th notes grooves which I’m working on since 5 weeks and my progress is rather slow in terms of playing it without mistakes. Is this normal ?
I’m also a lefty and always played openhanded on a regular setup, my teacher always gets back to saying that I should turn my setup to lefty but even the thought makes me uncomfortable to have my Hihat and snare where the FT stands and playing kick drum with my left foot after my right foot being the stronger one and making progress in heel down. I write and eat with my left hand but I’m doing anything else with my right hand.
Also, is your teacher always acting the same or does it happen to you too, that he or she is sometimes „harder“ on you? Is this what lessons are meant to be?

2021.10.23 20:34 amandamichelle90 Some of the best advice I ever heard - Stop mentally pricing coins by your own experience with it
We all do it, our entry price or the price we spent the majority of our time holding it at, or the ATH we put mental emphasis on certain prices and to us it becomes “on sale” or “overpriced” just because we saw it higher or lower for a long time and got attached.
Times like this we hear “don’t buy at all time high” which, by the way is only a thing until it goes higher and only really matters if you’re looking for a quick flip — kinda irrelevant to the long term idea.
But as time goes on, you lose those emotional evaluations of the standard price, a little over a year ago we saw BTC hit 10k for the very last time and there were absolutely people who discouraged buying in at that price — today though you would be happy you did. There’s also people who sell at times like these, hoping to buy back in on the dip and end up holding more coins, we don’t speak of it as frequently but it’s the same feeling as selling for a loss because people do often eventually buy back in at a higher price than they wanted to.
TLDR: Get in when you get in, and stay in. Old floors become new ceilings so don’t get attached to random price points just because you lived with them a long time.

Instead of walking past terrain the "straight move click" should just walk towards the clicked position in a straight line and ignore any terrain.
This gives you more control over your movement and no more flashing into walls. Please add it it´s very useful.

2021.10.23 20:34 the_custard Should I answer my real gender/pronouns on my application, will my parents see? (aka, should I come out? Is it risky?) + general advice question
This is kind of a mix between an application question and needing serious advice. And before I continue, i'm talking about gender not sex. Of course I answer my sex as the gender assigned at birth.
For the simple question: Can your parents see your gendepronoun answer in a college application? Not the general commonapp questions, this is in the specific questions a university is asking. One uni uses commonapp, and the other uses their own website for application, but both ask the same thing.
Also, I didn't put my parents' contact information on the commonapp questions, and they said they don't care for it to be added. But the college with their own website requires it. I say this because I heard someone say that to be safe you shouldn't put their emails and stuff. And so far my parents never asked to access my commonapp profile, so I don't think the chance of them signing in to see will happen. But in case it does, will they even see those questions? I'm applying for the uni on commonapp in like a week.
Now for the advice seeking, here is my situation: I am a nonbinary student with a family who wouldn't accept me being LGBTQ (I know this for a fact, especially regarding being trans). However, all the colleges I'm applying to are extremely accepting of trans/nb students, they're art schools of course. I want to somehow be out in college without my family knowing. And I'm not sure if that's easy and I'm just being paranoid, or if it really is risky.
I always hear about "how to hide your true self when coming home on holidays" but it'd be helpful to hear advice for my situation. Most LGBTQ advice I see is about hiding sexuality, and since mine also goes against my family's beliefs (...double homocide) I have experienced that it's much easier to hide that than your whole gender. It's not like I'd be super open about it, but I just cannot continue pretending anymore. I already look extremely androgynous and they didn't bat an eye, but my sibling brought up that he thinks "art school will brainwash me into being trans" so that made it quite awkward. Also, I don't have a preferred name yet and will just use my birthname for now, so that makes it easier. And if location affects this, two of the colleges are in big cities (one, my first choice is in my state) and the other is in a city in another state. But I mean, my family is closed off and said they only care to see me on holidays. I doubt they'd be in my personal life during college, but my mom has always been controlling so who knows.
I think some of that was irrelevant to college applications, I'm just explaining why an application question is causing me to get ahead of myself so much. And I stuck this this subreddit because of the genuine application question. It's okay if you only answer that one, that's the one part I really need answered here.
